India is Coming Online – Great step in the field of education

In a survey conducted on the effects of online education’ by the Ministry of Education in the Govt. of India, students who signed up for  online classes or registered themselves for a distance education course, actually performed better than those who took the same courses in a traditional classroom setting. Also, Students who receive a combination of online and face-to-face instruction performed the best. It is obvious that online education has entered India and is here to stay! In tracing the history of online education, the report read that, it was the launch of the World Wide Web in 1991 that dynamically changed the way education was perceived earlier from being static to a dynamic mode of exchanging information, ideas, and communicating with one another. Distances across the globe have suddenly bridged closer and people from all over the globe to connect with each other at an amazing speed. 

This new form of virtual communication began to serve as a new medium between educators and students across the world leading to an enormous impact on the world of education. New forms of online education have now begun to surface as a result. Tracing the evolution of online education, the history of online education began way back in the 1980s, a number of corporate using computer-based programs to train new employees. With the advent of the Internet companies realized they could train new recruits remotely and chat with them online. 

The biggest discovery perhaps was that the Internet actually helped companies cut costs because they didn't have to hire trainers because most employees were trained online. Technology had reached a point where assignments could now be submitted online, bypassing the need to print or mail anything. There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to taking online education courses. Full-time workers, hospitalized individuals, and others who are unable to attend traditional, in-class sessions can benefit greatly from the flexibility of online courses. On the other hand, it is an unfortunate reality that the quality of education one receives at an online school can be mediocre in comparison to the quality of education one receives at a traditional school.
